Financial incentives to go green
The Federal Government is now facilitating financial incentives through small-scale technology certificates (STCs) and the Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme to encourage installation of Solar Hot Water systems.
By utilising Solar energy over fossil fuel energy when installing domestic solar water heaters you generate STCs. The number of STCs created is dependant on climate zone and the solar water heater's relative efficiency. The more STCs, the greater the financial return to you. Prior to January 1, 2011 STCs were known as RECs/STCs and rebated differently. Your local retailer/installer will calculate your STC's according to location and unit and can pass it on as a discount or you may prefer to claim it yourself after installation.
The Renewable Energy Bonus Scheme - Solar Hot Water Rebate is available to help eligible home-owners, landlords or tenants to replace their electric storage hot water systems with solar or heat pump hot water systems.
Eligible households can claim a rebate of $1,000 for a solar hot water system or $600 for a heat pump hot water system through the rebate. This rebate applies for systems ordered and purchased from 20 February 2010.
